英文法の定着について:
英文法はシンプルですが,定着には時間がかかります。理論を学んだだけでは定着は難しく,多くの英文を読みながら 不明な部分はその都度確認し 時間をかけて定着させていく必要があります。 文部科学省・指導要領でも,文法は,読む・聴く・書くなどの実践において,繰り返し思考・判断・表現することを通して獲得される とされています。
当サービスの入試英文シリーズ(高校入試・大学入試)では,英文中に使用されている おおよそ全ての英文法に一行解説を加えるとともに,当ページの該当部分にリンクを張っています。
名詞: 数えられる名詞では,単数の時は a(an)~ ,複数の時は ~s(es) をつける。日本語ではしない
形容詞: 様子を表したり,名詞を修飾する。beatiful(美しい),fast(速い,早い)など。
副詞: 動詞や文全体を修飾し,「どのように」「どこで」「いつ」などを表す。hard(一生懸命に),quickly(速く,早く)など。
「どこで」「いつ」を表すことばには名詞もある。名詞の場合は,前に前置詞が必要。
He went there yesterday. (どちらも副詞)
He went to the library in the morning. (どちらも名詞)
※everyなどが付くと副詞句になり(every morningなど),前置詞は不要。
動詞: 一般動詞とbe動詞がある。日本語と異なる
一般動詞:おもに「どうする」と 動作を表す。
be動詞:「何だ」「どんなだ」と 状態や様子を表す文で使う。日本語にはない
※英語の文には 必ず動詞が必要。一般動詞でない文は,be動詞の文になる。
※1つの文に 動詞は1つ。一般動詞とbe動詞を,同時に使うことはできない(準動詞 は動詞ではない)。
主語が 一人称(I,We),二人称(You),三人称(その他すべて)のときで,動詞の形が変化する。
1.一般動詞
① 現在形
主語が 三人称単数のとき には,動詞に ~s(es) が付く。
He plays soccer every day.
They play soccer every day.
② 過去形
主語に関係なく,動詞に ~ed が付く(不規則変化も多い)。
He played soccer yesterday.
2.be動詞 日本語にはない
主語が 三人称単数のとき に注意。

1.一般動詞
助動詞 do,does(三人称現在のとき),did(過去形のとき)を使う。動詞は常に原形。
① 否定文
動詞の前に「do,does,did +not」。
He plays soccer every day.
→ He does not(doesn't) soccer every day.
② 疑問文
主語の前に「do,does,did」。
He plays soccer every day.
→ Does he play soccer every day?
2.be動詞
① 否定文
be動詞の後に not。
He is a good soccer player.
→ He is not(isn't) a good soccer player.
② 疑問文
be動詞を主語の前に。
He is a good soccer player.
→ Is he a good soccer player.
1.be動詞の後に置かれる 形容詞や名詞が補語。
He is happy. (形容詞)
He is a happy man. (名詞のまとまり)
※be動詞の前後には イコールの関係がある。
He is in the room.
※be動詞は「存在する」という意味。in the room は補語ではない。
2.補語を取る動詞にはbe動詞だけではなく,一部の一般動詞(不完全自動詞)もある。
He is happy.
He became happy. (一般動詞)
He looks happy. (一般動詞)
※keep(状態), become(変化), look(感覚)など。
一般動詞の後に置かれ,主に「~を」を表す名詞が目的語。
一般動詞には,常に目的語が不要な 自動詞(swimなど),目的語が必要な 他動詞(haveなど)があるが,動詞の多くは自動詞と他動詞の両方で使われる。
Her hair style often changes. 【自動詞】
She often changes her hair style. 【他動詞】
She often changes her daughter's hair style. 【他動詞】
※他動詞には「させる」の意味がある。
1.一部の動詞は,自動詞と他動詞で 意味が変わる。
He runs every morning. 【自動詞】

2.動詞の後に「目的語+目的語」の文型。
◯「~に~を」の意味。
My father made me a table. 【SVOO】
= My father made a table for me . 【SVO】
※この文型をとる動詞は,make(~のために~をつくる),buy(~のために~を買う),give(~に~を与える),show(~に~を見せる),ask(~に~を尋ねる)など。
※2つの目的語は必ず名詞(目的語になれるのは名詞だけ)。
◯後の O に,不定詞,that~ など がくることもある。
He told me to study hard . 【不定詞】
He told me that Tom can speak English . 【that節】
※この文型をとる動詞は,tell(~に~するように言う),want(~に~して欲しい),ask(~に~するように頼む)など。
※最初の目的語は必ず名詞,後の 不定詞,that~ なども名詞のまとまり(名詞節)。
3.動詞の後に「目的語+補語」の文型。
◯「目的語=補語」の関係がある。
My father made me a doctor. 【SVOC】
My father made me happy. 【SVOC】
※この文型をとる動詞は,make(~を~にする),keep(~を~に保つ),think(~を~と思う),believe(~を~と信じる)など。
※目的語は必ず名詞,補語は名詞か形容詞。
※ 「SVO+不定詞・分詞」「SVO+不定詞・分詞(Vは使役動詞)」になることもある。
2語以上で名詞を修飾する場合は,まとめて後ろから修飾する。

強調したい語が文頭に。以下の①~③が中心。
① 文頭が否定語
Little does he know the fact.

② 文頭が形容詞,副詞

③ 文頭が場所を表す語
On his left sat his mother.
Far away across the sea lies the sunny land of Spain.
※動詞が主語の前に置かれるが,疑問文の形にはならない。
④ 節が文頭に来ることもある。超ハイレベル

ふつうの名詞と同じように,主語や目的語,補語になる。

be動詞の場合は「~であること・なること」等。

1.目的語として不定詞,動名詞のどちらかしか取れない動詞もある。中2秋以前
I want to study English. (wantは不定詞のみ)
I enjoy studying English. (enjoyは動名詞のみ)
2.前置詞の後には動名詞しか置くことができない。中2秋以前
I went to bed after studying English.
3.不定詞の受動形(~されること): to be+過去分詞 高校
I want to be loved by someone.
4.動名詞の受動形(~されること): being+過去分詞 高校
I am used to being criticized by critics.
※be used to ~ing(動名詞):~することに慣れている
5.動名詞の意味上の主語は所有格で表す。 高校
I am sure of his succeeding.
I am sure of Tom's succeeding.
不定詞(名詞的用法)の前に疑問詞が付くと その意味が添えられ,名詞のまとまりになる。

おもに文末に置かれ,目的・理由・原因などを添えたり,形容詞を修飾する。

◯形容詞的用法との 明確な区別ができない場合がある。

「本を買うためのお金」→ 形容詞的用法
「本を買うためにお金が必要」→ 副詞的用法
※形容詞的では名詞(money)を,副詞的用法では文全体(I need some money)を修飾している。
I cleaned the room for him to take photos. 中3夏以降

※人の性格を表すときは of~。
Everyone wants to be loved by someone.
「~することになっている」という意味になる。
I am to meet him today.
You are to wait your turn.
※実際の英語ではほとんど使われない。
形容詞的に使われ,ふつうの形容詞と同じように名詞を修飾したり,be動詞の補語(進行形)になる。
① 名詞を修飾中3夏以降
The studying boy is Tom.
The boy studying English is Tom.
※2語以上の場合は,後ろから名詞を修飾(後置修飾)。通常は2語以上のため,後置修飾が一般的。
② 進行形中2秋以前
Tom is studying English now.
動作や行為を強調したり,確実な予定を表すこともある。
He is wearing a tie today.
He is living in Tokyo.
He is taking the eight o'clock flight tomorrow.
③ SVO+現在分詞 高校
I often see him playing games.
I often spend time playing games.
※現在分詞は,文法的には C(補語)のはたらきをしている。
形容詞的に使われ,ふつうの形容詞と同じように名詞を修飾したり,be動詞の補語(受動態)になる。
※過去分詞には不規則変化も多い。
① 名詞を修飾中3夏以降
I like boiled eggs .
I like eggs boiled hard .
※2語以上の場合は,後ろから名詞を修飾(後置修飾)。通常は2語以上のため,後置修飾が一般的。
② 受動態中3夏以前
This egg is boiled.
感情や被害はきっかけがあって起こるため,英語では「~される」と受動態で表すことが多い。
I am satisfied with the result.
※受動態ではなく,形容詞(satisfied=満足している)と認識されることも多い。
③ SVO+過去分詞 高校
I often see him surrounded by fans.
He often spends time surrounded by fans.
※過去分詞は,文法的には C(補語) のはたらきをしている。
1.助動詞を含む受動態 <助動詞+be+過去分詞> 高校
The car must be repaired.
2.進行形の受動態 <be動詞+being+過去分詞> 高校
The car is being repaired.
3.受動態+不定詞 高校
He is known to be a great writer.
※不定詞で補足説明をしている。
元の動詞の意味に注意する。

※satisfyは「(人を)満足させる」,fallは「降る」という意味。
現在分詞 1語で「~なので」,過去分詞 1語で「~されているので」など。補足して意味を取る必要がある。
Getting tired, I went home.
Written in easy English, I like this book.
1.接続詞を伴うこともある。
While coming home from work, I saw the beautiful sky.
※接続詞がなくても意味は変わらない。
2.主語が異なる場合は,前に主語が付くこともある。
The night coming, I went home.
3.with A + ~ing,~edで付帯状況を表す。超ハイレベル
He sat on the bench with his arms waving .

※advise,want,order などの多くの動詞で,to不定詞がくる。

□原形不定詞
to が省略されて 動詞の原形だけが残った不定詞。はたらきは同じ。
使用は限られ,おもに 知覚動詞(see,hear など)と 使役動詞(make, have, let,help)の文のみ。
準動詞には,元の動詞の語順(動詞-目的語など)が生きている。
元の語順:communicate with each other

疑問詞が使われるが,後は肯定文の語順。名詞のまとまりになり,ふつうの名詞と同じように主語や目的語,補語などになる。

※関係代名詞what,関係副詞 when・where,why,how(修飾される名詞の働きを兼ねるとき)と形が全く同じで,実質的な意味も同じことがある。

○同格の that「~という」
直前の名詞を説明。fact(事実),rumor(うわさ),news(知らせ),hope(希望)など 抽象的な名詞 が多い。
The fact that he knew it was shocking to me.
※「The fact=that he knew it」の関係。「that he knew it」で文として成り立つ。that は通常 省略しない。
※実際の英語ではほとんど使われない。
The fact (that) he knew was shocking to me.
※he knew は The fact を修飾。「he knew (the fact)」で文として成り立つ。
カンマがあるときは,その前で一旦意味が切れる。
She has a son who is a doctor. (医者の息子が1人いる → 息子は1人とは限らない)
She has a son, who is a doctor. (息子が1人いるが,彼は医者だ → 息子は1人)
※カンマがあるときは,目的格でも関係詞を省略できない。

助動詞の過去形は,過去を表すのとは別に 控えめな意味やていねいな意味 を表す。過去を表すより,この用法の方が一般的(助動詞の過去の表し方は こちら を参照)。
○過去の意味
Women could not vote 100 years ago.
○婉曲表現
She could(≒can) become an actress.
※can(できる)より意味が弱くなる。
Could(≒Can) you help me with this work?
※canよりていねいな意味になる。

※hopeとwishはどちらも「望む」という意味の動詞だが,仮定法ではwishを使う。
※過去の意味のときと形は同じなので,文脈などから意味を判断する。
1.if~の仮定法過去
If I were(was) a bird, I could fly there.
if~のかわりに,with~などを使うこともある。
With more time, I could go there.
2.as if+仮定法: まるで~のように 高校 ハイレベル
She talks as if she were(was) a little girl.
3.wish の代わりに if only を使うこともある。 高校 超ハイレベル
If only I passed the examination. (可能性はほとんどない)
○未来の事実に反することも仮定法過去で表すが,if~の文にwere toを使うこともある。
If the sun were to disappear (=If the sun disappeared), we couldn't live.
○未来の仮定で,可能性があるときには if~ の文にshouldを使う。
If you should die, your family couldn't live.
※仮定法ではなく,過去形の助動詞の婉曲表現 ととらえることもできる。
完了(結果),経験,継続の3つの意味を表す。
I have studied Chinese now. 【完了】

※形は同じなので,文脈などからどの意味か判断する。
※文によっては,3つの意味を明確に区別できないこともある。

1.助動詞の過去の意味は「助動詞+have」で表す。
(※以下は全て過去の意味)
He can't(couldn't) have been rich.
He may(=might) have been rich.
He must have been rich.
※過去形 couldn't,might を使うと意味が弱く(控えめ)になる。must には過去形がない。
【注意】助動詞の過去形(would,could,might,should)が過去を表す場合は,以下に限られる。
① 時制の一致
「助動詞の過去形+have」で使われる。
He used to go to church, but would sometimes be late.
④ couldが「できた」の意味の時
I could swim well.
「かもしれなかった」の時は have を使う。
I have could(=can) be worng.
※過去形 could を使うと意味が弱く(控えめ)になる。
2.不定詞や動名詞などの過去の意味も have で表す。
He is said to have been rich.
He boasts of having been rich.
He was a good engineer, having learned enough skills.
過去のさらに過去のことは 大過去形で表す。
The boy was an orphan. His parents had died two years before.
※ 過去完了形 と同じ形で,実質的な意味も同じことがある。
1つ1つの動詞で時(現在,過去,大過去)を表す。that節中などでは 時制が日本語と異なることがある。
He said (that) she was sick.
He said (that) she had been sick.
※「彼女が病気だった」のは「彼は言った」より前のこと。
He taught us (that) honesty is best. 【過去+現在】
※「正直が最善である」は普遍的な事実なので,現在形で表すことがある(過去形でも可)。
過去の事実に反することは 大過去形で表す。過去完了形,大過去形と同じ形。
I wish (that) I had flown there.
A sensible person would not have said such a thing.

If I had been a bird, I could have flown there.
Ifが省略され,倒置になることがある。ハイレベル

※副詞では,theは省略するのがふつう。
1.綴りが長いときは,~erの代わりにmore~,~estの代わりにmost~が使われる。

2.比較級と最上級は単に名詞を修飾することも多い。

3.最上級では,範囲を示すのにinではなくofが使われることがある。 高校 ハイレベル

※主語と同類の名詞を結ぶときはofが使われる。
as~as の間に長いことばが入ると,意味を取りにくくなる。

4.数字の前にnot,noがつくとき
