I am satisfied with the result.

 

■感情を述べるとき，日本語では「～される」とは言いませんが，英語では「～される」と受動態を使って表すことがあります。


I am satisfied　  with the result.

私は満足させられている　　　　　その結果に　　　（→その結果に満足している）

POINT 感情はきっかけがあって起こるため，「～される」「～させられている」と受動態で表されています。

注意 satisfyは「～を満足させる」という意味の動詞です。

The result satisfied me. 　 結果は私を満足させた

※英語には「満足する」という意味の動詞はなく，このときはsatisfyを受動態にして「満足させられている」と表します。

 


■応用力をつける
　 　 　　

① I was surprised at the small size of her apartment.　　

② I was deeply disappointed that such a talent※1 died young.

③ You may be interested to hear that many people still believe in ghosts.

④ He was greatly shocked to know that his child had been kidnapped※2.

※1才能がある人 ※2kidnap：誘拐する ※3神


■感情は「～される」「～させられている」と受動態で表されることがあります。

① I was surprised 　  at the small size of her apartment.

私はおどろかされた（おどろいた）　　　　　　　彼女のアパートの狭さに

※be surprised：おどろく


② I was deeply disappointed   　　  that such a talent died young.

私はひどくがっかりさせられた（がっかりした） 　 あれほどの才能がある人が若くして亡くなったことに

※be disappointed：がっかりする


③ You may be interested 　　 to hear that many people still believe in ghosts.

あなたは興味をもたされる（興味をもつ）だろう　　　  多くの人がまだ幽霊を信じていることを聞いて

※be interested：興味がある


④ He was greatly shocked 　　 to know that his child had been kidnapped.

彼はひどくショックを受けさせられた（ショックを受けた）　　  自分の子供が誘拐されたことを知って

※be shocked：ショックを受ける


⑤ How can we know  　　　　　　　　  if our Lord is pleased with us?

どのように私たちは知ることができるか？　　神が自分を気に入らさせられて（気に入って）いるのか

※be pleased：気に入る，満足する

 


⑥ The F1 driver was killed in the crash※1 during the race.

⑦ She was caught in a shower rain※2 on her way to school.　

⑧ Our plane was delayed six hours by the typhoon.

⑨ The novelist was born and raised in London.

※1衝突事故 ※2にわか雨


■被害も「～される」「～させられている」と受動態で表されます。

⑥ The F1 driver was killed 　 in the crash 　 during the race.

　    そのF1ドライバーは殺された（死んだ）　　　  衝突事故で　   　　　 　  レース中の


⑦ She was caught in a shower rain　  on her way to school.

　　   彼女はにわか雨にあわされた（あった）　　　　　　     　　　     学校に行く途中に


⑧ Our plane was delayed  　six hours 　 by the typhoon.

　    私たちの飛行機は　遅らされた（遅れた）　　 ６時間　 　　　　　   台風によって


⑨ The novelist was born 　　 and raised  　　　 in London.

　    その小説家は産み出され（生まれ）  　 そして育てられた（育った）　　　 ロンドンで

　　　※「生まれる」「育つ」なども，「～される」と受動態で表されます。

 


⑩ Scientists believe the surface of Mars※1 was once covered with
　huge※2 oceans.

⑪ Traditional Japanese paper is made from hemp※3 and mulberry fibers※4.

⑫ The train was filled with people heading home for long holiday.

⑬ Yahoo is well known to us for its popular search engine.

※1火星 ※2巨大な ※3麻 ※4桑の繊維


■受動態では，「～によって」と行為者を表すときby を使うのがふつうですが，by を使わない受動態もあります。

⑩ Scientists believe  　the surface of Mars  was once covered  with huge oceans.

　    科学者は信じている　  　　    　　   火星の表面は 　    　　　　       かつて覆われていた（と）　　　    巨大な海によって


⑪ Traditional Japanese paper 　 is made 　 from hemp and mulberry fibers.

伝統的な日本の紙は　             　　　　　　     つくられる 　　　　　　　　　　  　 麻や桑の繊維から


⑫ The train was filled 　 with people heading home 　 for long holiday.　

　　  列車は満たされていた　 　　　　　　　　      故郷へ向かう人々によって　    　　　         長い休暇で


⑬ Yahoo is well known  　to us 　 for its popular search engine.

　   ヤフーはよく知られている 　　　　     私たちに　 　　　    人気のある検索エンジンとして

　　　　　　　 　　　　　　　　　　　　　

 

■整理 日本語では「～される」と言わない受動態

① 感情を表す表現

be surprised at～： ～におどろく  

be shocked at～： ～にショックを受ける

be amazed at～： ～におどろく

be disappointed at～： ～にがっかりする

be worried about～： ～を心配する

be interested in～： ～に興味がある

be satisfied with～： ～に満足する

be concerned with～： ～に関心がある

be pleased with～： ～に満足する・喜ぶ

be frightened： おびえる
be excited： 興奮する

② 被害を表す表現

be killed in～： （事故など）で死ぬ

be wounded： けがをする

　　be delayed： （バス，電車などが）遅れる

be caught in～： （嵐など）にあう

be injured： けがをする

 


③ その他の表現

be born： 生まれる   

be engaged in～： ～に従事している


be raised： 育つ

be married： 結婚している


■整理 「～によって」にby以外の前置詞をとる受動態

be known to～： （人など）に知られている

be known for～： ～として知られている

be covered with～： ～で覆われている

be filled with～： ～で満たされている

be made of～： ～でつくられている（材料は変化しない・木材→机など ）

be made from～： ～でつくられている（材料が変化する・木材→紙など）
