動詞+ing は「~している」という意味になり,次の2つのはたらきをします。
■名詞をおもにうしろから修飾します。

あなたは知っていますか? あの動物を 木の下で眠っている
注意 ~ingが1語のときは,前から名詞を修飾します(sleeping animal)。
■be動詞のあとにおかれ,進行中の動作を表します(進行形)。
② The lesser panda is sleeping under the tree.
レッサーパンダは 眠っている 木の下で
POINT ~ingは名詞を修飾したりbe動詞の補語になりますが,これは形容詞のはたらきと同じです。
