過去分詞は「~される・~された」という意味になり,次の2つのはたらきをします。過去分詞の基本形は動詞+edですが,不規則変化するものも多くあります。
■名詞をおもにうしろから修飾します。

あなたは好きですか? ピカソによってかかれた絵が
注意 過去分詞が1語のときは,前から名詞を修飾します(painted wall(ペンキを塗られた壁))。
■be動詞のあとにおかれ,受け身の意味を表します(受動態)。
② Guernica was painted by Picasso in 1937.
ゲルニカは かかれた ピカソによって 1937年に
POINT このように,過去分詞は名詞を修飾したりbe動詞の補語になりますが,これ
は形容詞のはたらきと同じです。
